Vie adjusted her racing suit, displeased with the black on black coloration. She may never settle on a racing name--though her current ideas revolved around the Cathouse, an amusing play on certain types of entertainment common in the Big Easy.  She'd been called a whore before; it may as well be with good reason.  In any case, she thought that a dark red would be infinitely preferable to black. Getting Beau to agree might take a little effort.  He seemed to like the idea of purple and gold.

Argo sneezed and sidled towards the door.  She whistled sharply and he sighed dramatically before sauntering back towards his large kennel.  If looks could kill, his purple gaze would flay the flesh from poor Vie's back.  "I'll take you out later, ma cheri."

A few weeks at Elsevier and he was already outgrowing another kennel, his cub roundness fading into a juvenile lankiness. Vie was very glad that they were almost finished with the training program, because she wasn't entirely sure she could handle being cooped up with a teenage shedu for much longer.  Today was the last day, a mock race to prove whether or not the pending trainees deserved their diplomas.

Vie brought Tia in and groomed her silver coat until it shone. The queen chuffed and chirped and butted her head into Vie's shoulder.  The redhead laughed and scratched the large shedu beneath her chin.  "You're a dream," Vie pointed out unnecessarily. "If Argo grows up to be half the cat you are I'll be pleased."

Tia puffed up her chest and stretched into her tack, eager to get out and run.  When Vie swung into the saddle and they moved into the gate, she felt a flare of anticipation. Time to prove herself, once and for all.
